DP Studio Le100 (Classic one-button Blazer): The fronts and side panels

EN Summary: My next project is DP Studio's Le100 (click here to open the pattern page). In this article I show how I prepared the fronts (including side panels) so they are ready for the next step, which will be sewing the flap pockets. Keep reading the full article.

Continuem a ler o artigo completo.

EN: Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and is now ready to start the New Year in full! I also appreciate all the comments received in my last post, thank you all so much!
As you guys have certainly noticed I spent my holidays mostly sewing so I have a lot to catch up on the blog! I made a pair of pants and to complete the set I also made the blazer, using the same dark denim fabric. Below you can see the style lines of the blazer (image credits: https://dpstudio-fashion.com/):

EN: I made a small adjustment on the pattern to prepare for sewing the pocket later; with this type of pocket insertion I am used to the edges of side-front bottom and front to butt together instead of overlapping; so I shaved off the seam allowance on the front opening edge (marked in red ink below) - the reason for this will become clearer ahead:
---

EN: The next photo shows the interfacings and reinforcements on the back (upper back, hem and vent area are interfaced, neckline and armhole are taped with fusible straight-grain tape), side panel (fully interfaced, armhole reinforced with fusible straight-grain tape), side front (also fully interfaced, armhole reinforced with fusible straight-grain tape) and front panel (fully interfaced, taped around neckline, front edges and roll-line); I also interfaced the top of the sleeves, the vent areas and hems on the sleeves; the front and back facings were reinforced with lighter knit fusible interfacing (sleeves and facings are not shown in the photo):
---
EN: The first step is sewing and pressing the princess seams open :
---

EN: Then, before joining the fronts to the side panel, I fused a strip of interfacing that closes the opening temporarily. This is the reason why I prefer to have this seam without seam allowance, just butting together at the pocket opening line. The interfacing is holding everything together and perfectly aligned for the step that follows:
---
EN: The next step before sewing the pockets is attaching the side panels to the front; the pocket opening will later extend into the side panel but it wont be slashed open until the pocket pieces are sewn in place. The next post will show the pocket construction!
---

I am glad that you are showing how to make these front pockets. It's something I've seen in Burda but never made. Very nice.
